Program Design

The Social Service certificate program is designed for students seeking short-term academic and in-service professional development, and for those with extensive social service experience or an academic degree.

Learning Outcomes

Become familiar with the past, present and future of human services.
Become prepared to facilitate groups.
Be able to communicate orally and in writing in a manner appropriate to the profession of human services.
Be prepared to service recipient populations in the profession.

Required Courses

HSE* 101:&nbsp;Introduction to Human Services 3 Credits
HSE* 251:&nbsp;Work with Individuals and Families 3 Credits
HSE* 210:&nbsp;Group & Interpersonal Relations 3 Credits
HSE* 241:&nbsp;Human Services Agencies and Organizations 3 Credits
Choose any three courses 9 Credits^‡‡
Choose any two ANT*, ECN*, GEO*, HIS*, POL*, PSY*, SOC* or SSC* courses 6 Credits^‡‡
HSE* 281:&nbsp;Human Services Field Work I 3 Credits ^‡ or
SSC* 294:&nbsp;Cooperative Education/Work Experience 3 Credits

Total Credits Required: 30
