MUS* 115: Music Theory I3 Credits (Formerly MUS 111) This course offers an exploration of the rudiments of music theory and analysis. Students will strengthen the skills needed to read and write music notation. Topics include: pitch, rhythm, meter, scale, construction, keys, intervals, triads and seventh chords, chord inversions, basic counterpoint, voice leading, choral part writing, and figured bass. The aural component of the material studied in this course is covered in MUS* 166 . Both courses are only offered in the fall semester. Open to any students at the college. Therefore, MUS* 115 and MUS* 166 must be taken concurrently. Prerequisites: Corequisite MUS* 166 Offered: Fall
