MAT* 148: Geometry3 Credits (Formerly MATH 109) A foundation course in Euclidean geometry using an axiomatic approach recommended especially for physical science and engineering majors who have not had a formal geometry course. Topics include: inductive and deductive reasoning; logic; polygons; parallelism; congruence; similarity; coordinate geometry; direct, indirect and coordinate proof; three-dimensional space; and a brief introduction to non-Euclidean geometries. As appropriate, computer software is used to encourage exploration and formulation of hypothesis. Prerequisites: “C” or better in MAT* 138 or MAT* 139 or “B+” or better in MAT* 096 or MAT* 095 or placement by mathematics assessment test and eligibility for ENG* 101 . Offered: Occasionally
