ENG* 250: Studies in Ethnic Literature3 Credits This course surveys writing by authors of various ethnicities and races in American culture, including but not limited to Native Americans, European immigrants, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans. This course examines how ethnic writing enables and resists assimilation, and how the literature of individual ethnicities underlies mainstream American literature and, at times, becomes part of the mainstream. The course also explores the history and sociology of immigration and multiculturalism. Prerequisites: ENG* 110 or permission of instructor. Offered: Spring
