Program Design

CSCU Pathway Transfer, A.A. degree programs are for Connecticut Community College students who wish to transfer to one of the Connecticut State Universities or Charter Oak without either losing any credits or being required to take extra credits in order to complete a bachelor’s degree in that same discipline. Community College students can complete associate degree programs that transfer without hassle to all Connecticut State Universities and Charter Oak State College offering their major. Upon transfer, students are guaranteed full junior status and can complete a bachelor’s degree in their major without losing any credits or be required to take any extra credits.

Curriculum

With this degree you will be able to transfer to the following majors:

At Central Connecticut State University: Spanish, B.A.
At Eastern Connecticut State University: Spanish, B.A.
At Southern Connecticut State University: Spanish, B.A.
At Western Connecticut State University: Spanish, B.A

Program Objectives:

1. Complete an Associate of Arts degree in Spanish Studies.

2. Transfer seamlessly into a Bachelor of Arts degree program in Spanish with junior-level status in the receiving CSCU institution as part of the CSCU Transfer Tickets program.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate listening proficiency in the target language at the Intermediate Low level as per the ACTFL guidelines*.

2. Demonstrate speaking proficiency in the target language at the Intermediate Low level as per the ACTFL guidelines*.

3. Demonstrate reading proficiency in the target language at the Intermediate Low level as per the ACTFL guidelines*.

4. Demonstrate writing proficiency in the target language at the Intermediate Low level as per the ACTFL guidelines*.

5. Demonstrate analytic, interpretative and critical thinking skills in regards to language and the communication process.

6. Recognize that understanding other cultures will enrich one’s own life and result in life long learning.

7. Apply critical thinking skills to the understanding of cultural differences and similarities.

Becoming Connecticut State Community College

STUDENTS: The Community Colleges are undergoing a merger with a plan to become Connecticut State Community College in fall 2023; please work closely with your advisor/program coordinator to select your courses accordingly. See below for more detail about this exciting transition!

Becoming Connecticut State Community College

A merger of Connecticut’s 12 community colleges is underway. Connecticut State Community College (CT State), a statewide college comprised of all Connecticut’s current community college locations, plans to open its doors in the Fall 2023. Here are some important facts students need to know:

the final commencement ceremony for Manchester Community College is scheduled for May 2023. Ceremonies will continue to be held at each location as campuses of CT State.
as a part of the planned merger, students continuing their studies beyond summer term 2023 will be matched with the CT State program that most closely aligns with their Spring 2023 major and is offered at the Manchester location,
students who begin an Associate degree program in January 2023 will complete their degree at the merged college, Connecticut State Community College,
in all cases, the College is committed to students completing their education with a minimum of disruption and staying in touch with your advisor/program coordinator is essential,

Unrestricted Electives: *6-7credits
*You are free to choose any courses at or above 100-level to complete unrestricted electives, although you may need to use some these credits to take a math course that prepares you for the required level of math in your program. If you begin Spanish at a higher level than SPA101, you will receive additional unrestricted electives.You should also consider using unrestricted electives to begin work on completing a minor. Central Connecticut State University will require that you complete a minor by earning at least 18 credits in one area outside your major field; you must complete at least 9 of those minor credits at Central. You can also complete other General Education requirements for Central, Southern and Western Connecticut State Universities and Charter Oak State College-but not Eastern Connecticut State University. Your advisor will help you to determine which courses to select. In order to graduate and be guaranteed admission to a State University or to Charter Oak State College, you must earn an overall 2.0 grade point average
