CST* 123: Computer Operating Systems4 Credits (Formerly CST 130) This introductory course will provide the student with an understanding of modern operating systems and their functions. The course will cover the structure and design of operating systems including resource allocation, process management, CPU management, problems in concurrency and synchronization of processes, deadlocks, primary and secondary storage management, file management, and system performance. The course is a blend of theory and laboratory work. The laboratory component will include an examination of DOS, Windows and Linux. The student will have an opportunity to install a minimum of two operating systems. Prerequisites: CSC* 124 or CSC* 125 or CSC* 205 or CSC* 206 or CSC* 215 or CSC* 226 or CSC* 241 or or or EGR* 230 Offered: Fall,Spring
