Program Design
Today’s social media platforms are growing in leaps and bounds which means now more than ever businesses are looking for talented people to help them leverage that evolving landscape. The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts that employers will add 6% more jobs in this area of expertise to our economy by 2024. From small to major businesses, every brand needs a social media presence plan to stay competitive. Building your familiarity with social media trends and platforms can help you leverage your next job opportunity.
The Social Media Specialist Certificate combines digital technology, communications and marketing coursework to equip graduates with the skills they need in this fast-changing field. Our certificate is designed to provide relevant training in key areas such as website design, social media, consumer behavior, search engine optimization, and project management.
Curriculum
Students may enroll in this program full or part-time. Students should consult with an Information Management & Technology faculty advisor to plan their program and discuss required course prerequisites. Some courses are offered in both on-line and on-ground formats.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of all Social Media Specialist certificate program requirements, graduates will:
- Build and execute social media strategies through competitive research, data interpretation, benchmarking, messaging, and audience identification.
- Implement and maintain an organization’s social media strategy, developing brand awareness and boosting product adoption.
- Maintain a website and use related content management tools.
- Report on the process of applying various social media tactics using digital and media tracking tools.
- Develop social media marketing campaigns.
- Demonstrate professionalism and positive work habits necessary for success in today’s business world.

*Becoming Connecticut State Community College
A merger of Connecticut’s 12 community colleges is underway. As a part of this merger, modifications will be made to academic programs. Students who do not complete their programs by the end of the Spring 2023 term will be matched with the Connecticut State Community College (CT State) program that most closely aligns with the student’s Spring 2023 program and is offered at the current Manchester Community College location. The College is committed to students completing their education with a minimum of disruption.
